MICE and other rodents make up more than 90 percent of the animals used for
medical research. Rodents are ideal subjects for the laboratory because they are small mammals,
easy to handle, and have many biological similarities to humans. They are used for safety
testing, and to study cancer, hypertension, nerve and spinal cord injury, nutrition, the brain, and
much more.
