AAAS Policy Brief: Stem Cell Research Includes a discussion of
the history and basics of stem cell science, as well as development of
the policy and ethical debate.
Under the Microscope: Stem Cell Research Assembled by the
National Academy of Sciences. In addition to links to National
Academies’ reports, this site includes a quiz to test your stem cell
knowledge and a great deal of information on the science, policy and

Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (SCNT) Basics
FASEB Statements The Federation of American Societies for
Experimental Biology opposed the use of somatic cell nuclear transfer
(SCNT) for the purposes of human reproductive cloning. However, FASEB
feels that SCNT is an important technology for the creation of embryonic
stem cells that can help us better understand basic biology and treat
medical conditions.

Stem Cell Resources for Scientists A fairly comprehensive list

Ethics of Stem Cell Research
President’s Council on Bioethics The PCB advises the President
on ethical issues related to advances biomedical sciences and
technology. They have produced a number of reports and papers on stem
cells, SCNT and related technologies.
National Bioethics Advisory Commission (NBAC) - This site has
archived reports (including Ethical Issues in Human Stem Cell Research,
1999) from the National Bioethics Advisory Commission, whose charter
expired in October 2001.
The Ethics of Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research
The International Society for Stem Cell Research provides this
information as a public service to those wishing to discuss stem cell
ethics.
The Ethics of Human Cloning and Stem Cell Research A
report from a meeting of the Markkula Center
for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University which was looking at state
level regulation of stem cell research.
Ethics of Stem Cell Research A
Canadian website listing a variety of academic resources related to
discussions of the ethical implications of stem cell research.
Scientific and Professional Organizations
Society for Developmental Biology FASEB member society dedicated
to advancement of the field of developmental biology. Site includes
position statements on stem cell and SCNT technology.
Society for the Study of Reproduction FASEB member association
of scientists and physicians interested in research in reproduction.
Site includes position statements on stem cell and SCNT technology.
International Society for Stem Cell Research Professional
scientific society of stem cell researchers. Their website includes a
great variety of information aimed at both scientists and the general
public, as well as information for the media, including the most up to
date scientific information on stem cells.
American Society for Cell Biology A professional society whose
purpose is to promote and develop the field of cell biology. ASCB has
been quite active in stem cell and SCNT policy.
American Association for the Advancement of
Science
An international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science
around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and
professional association.
American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM)
FAQs about cloning, stem cell research, and ASRM's position on the
issues.
National Academy of Sciences (NAS) The National Academy of Sciences was created by the federal government
to be an adviser on scientific and technological matters.
Provides a report entitled Stem Cells and the
Future of Regenerative Medicine and information on stem cell
issues.
Biotechnology Industry Organization A
coalition of large and small biotechnology research organizations, BIO
has position statements on stem cell research and SCNT.
Advocacy Groups
Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research A coalition of
patient advocacy, physician and research organization, CAMR is a leading
advocate for stem cell research. Their site provides up to date news and
legislative information, as well as tools for stem cell advocates.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Information on using stem cells to restore normal blood sugar, plus
information on recent research and policy.
Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation
Funds research on treatments for central nervous system disorders and
works to improve the lives of people with disabilities through a grants
program, paralysis resource center, and advocacy efforts. Site includes
an advocacy toolkit, legislative information, and a host of basic info
on stem cells / SCNT.
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research Dedicated to ensuring the development of a cure for
Parkinson's disease within this decade through an aggressively funded
research agenda.
