Advocacy for biomedical research and shaping of related
policies on behalf of working scientists are the chief missions of the
FASEB Office of Public Affairs (OPA). Working with FASEB leadership,
Member Society staff, government officials, and advocacy partners,
the OPA staff helps to facilitate a productive exchange among the scientific
community, the Federal government, and the public. FASEB’s reputation as
the voice of the biomedical research community is such that when issues
related to science arise, legislators, federal agencies, and other
organizations come seeking FASEB’s views.
| Government Liaison |
FASEB
represents the views of nearly 80,000 biomedical scientists
before Congress, federal agencies and other organizations. By
speaking with a single voice, the
21 member societies of the Federation can increase the
impact of their message and maximize their influence on public
policy. To take action, visit our
Legislative Action Center. |
| Policy Development |
The Office
of Public Affairs supports the policy development and research
mission of the Science Policy Committee, which is responsible
for developing pro-active positions on Public Policy Priorities.
FASEB also develops tools for scientists such as our
Conflict of Interest toolkit. |
| Public Outreach |
OPA
publishes a
wide range of educational and advocacy tools for public
use. Examples include the
Breakthroughs in Bioscience series highlighting
scientific breakthroughs in biomedical research and the
Educating about Evolution tools that support scientists in
communicating about and advocating for evolution education. |
| Research & Analysis |
OPA analyzes
data and conducts research in support of FASEB's policy
development and advocacy activities. This information is
disseminated in scientific journals, FASEB publications, and the
Public Affairs website.
Examples include articles on
training,
NIH funding and the presentation, "Education
and Employment of Biological and Medical Scientists." |
